The Root

God's Creations

One word covers a line of scripture and a rainstorm. Both are put there to be read.

In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day, there are signs for those who possess intelligence.

[3:190]

God says where He keeps His evidence, and none of it is confined to the page: “We will show them our proofs in the horizons, and within themselves, until they realize that this is the truth.” [41:53]

The horizons, and inside the person. A line of scripture and a rainstorm are both called a sign.

So this page is about creation read, not creation admired. What a sign is. What it points at around us. What it points at inside us. And where people later arrived at what the Quran had already said.

What a Sign Is

Start with the verse that sets the terms: “In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day, there are signs for those who possess intelligence.” [3:190]

Two halves. Something is there to be seen, and someone has to do the seeing. The verse names who: those who possess intelligence.

So a sign works as a pointer, not as a courtroom proof. It works on a person willing to follow it. For anyone else, nothing.

And it matters who does the showing. God says: “We will show them our proofs in the horizons, and within themselves, until they realize that this is the truth. Is your Lord not sufficient, as a witness of all things?” [41:53]

Among His Proofs

There is a phrase God uses again and again. Following it through the Quran is a surprising thing to do. Among His proofs. What comes after it is rarely what we expect.

The heavens and the earth, yes: “Among His proofs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the creatures He spreads in them.” [42:29]

But also a marriage: “Among His proofs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves, in order to have tranquility and contentment with each other, and He placed in your hearts love and care towards your spouses.” [30:21]

And then the one that stops most readers: “Among His proofs is your sleeping during the night or the day, and your working in pursuit of His provisions.” [30:23] Sleep. Going to work. Set beside the heavens and the earth in the same list.

The pattern is worth naming. Several of these verses end by naming who the proof is for. People who think. People who are knowledgeable. People who can hear [30:21-23]. And the ones that name something near us name something we stopped noticing years ago.

The Ones Nobody Photographs

So the invitation is much larger than a night sky. The night sky is on the list, and God put it there. But so is a great deal nobody has ever photographed.

God keeps returning to exactly that: “Do you not see that GOD has committed in your service everything in the heavens and the earth, and has showered you with His blessings— obvious and hidden?” [31:20] Obvious and hidden. Most of it is the hidden kind.

It is also longer than anyone can work through: “If you count GOD's blessings, you cannot possibly encompass them.” [16:18] That clarifies things instead of discouraging us. The task was never to finish the list, only to stop walking past it.

So take one item. Last night's sleep, this morning's work, the person we married, a language we will never speak. Hold it for two minutes, and ask honestly what it would take to design it from nothing.

Questions About Signs

What does the Quran mean when it calls something a sign?

It means a pointer. Something put in the world to be read, which points at the One who made it. The word covers both kinds of sign at once. A verse of the Quran is one, and so is the night turning into day: “In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day, there are signs for those who possess intelligence.” [3:190] A sign is not a proof that forces anyone. It works on a person willing to follow it. That is why God attaches an audience to so many of them. People who think. People who are knowledgeable. People who can hear [30:21-23].

The Quran says people pass the proofs by. What are we missing?

Mostly the ordinary things, because we stopped noticing them years ago. Look at what God puts on the list. A marriage, sleep, a day's work, our languages and our colours [30:21-23]. None of that is exotic, and all of it is named as evidence. He also says how much of it is out of sight: He “has showered you with His blessings— obvious and hidden.” [31:20] And that we could not finish counting even if we tried [16:18]. What is missing is attention, not information.

Is noticing creation a form of worship, or just appreciation?

It becomes worship when it turns into thankfulness and remembrance. On its own, admiring something is only a feeling. God says what He gave us the faculties for: “And He gave you the hearing, the eyesight, and the brains; rarely are you thankful.” [32:9] The equipment came with a purpose attached. And He asks for the remembering that follows: “Once you complete your Contact Prayer (Salat), you shall remember GOD while standing, sitting, or lying down.” [4:103] Standing, sitting, lying down covers most of a day, which is where most of the noticing happens.

The World Around Us

God's account of living things begins with one substance, and He states it in the widest terms He has.

“And GOD created every living creature from water. Some of them walk on their bellies, some walk on two legs, and some walk on four. GOD creates whatever He wills. GOD is Omnipotent.” [24:45]

The same thing is said of the beginning of everything: “And from water we made all living things.” [21:30] And of us in particular: “He is the One who created from water a human being.” [25:54]

Every living creature, from one material. The verse then sorts them by how they move, which is how someone writes after watching.

Rain, Seed and Fruit

From there God follows the water. He is at every step of it, not behind a cycle that runs itself.

“GOD is the One who sends the winds, to stir up clouds, to be spread throughout the sky in accordance with His will. He then piles the clouds up, then you see the rain coming down therefrom.” [30:48]

What the water does next is given in detail: “He is the One who sends down from the sky water, whereby we produce all kinds of plants. We produce from the green material multitudes of complex grains, palm trees with hanging clusters, and gardens of grapes, olives and pomegranate; fruits that are similar, yet dissimilar. Note their fruits as they grow and ripen.” [6:99]

Two things there are easy to read past. One is the command to note the fruits as they grow and ripen. That means watching something for weeks, not glancing at it. The other is “similar, yet dissimilar”. One rain and one soil, and out of it come fruits that are nothing like each other.

And the same water carries a second meaning: “And we revive with it dead lands; you are similarly resurrected.” [50:11] A sign of provision and a sign of what happens to us, in one sentence.

Communities Like Us

One line about animals is easy to quote and hard to take in: “All the creatures on earth, and all the birds that fly with wings, are communities like you. We did not leave anything out of this book. To their Lord, all these creatures will be summoned.” [6:38]

Communities like us, and summoned to their Lord like us. The footnote to that verse says animals were among the creatures who took God's offer to repent.

That reading fits how God talks about particular creatures. He gives them attention, not instruction. He inspires the bee where to build [16:68]. An ant warns its own colony, and is quoted [27:18]. The birds overhead are held up by Him [67:19].

And there is a direct reproach about one of them: “Why do they not reflect on the camels and how they are created?” [88:17]

Five Creatures the Quran Names

Each one is named for a reason, and the reason is in the verse beside it.

The bee

“And your Lord inspired the bee: build homes in mountains and trees.” [16:68] The next verse says what comes out of it: “From their bellies comes a drink of different colors, wherein there is healing for the people.” [16:69]

[16:68-69]

The ant

“When they approached the valley of the ants, one ant said, ‘O you ants, go into your homes, lest you get crushed by Solomon and his soldiers, without perceiving.’” [27:18] An ant, quoted, with a warning and a reason in it.

[27:18]

The spider

“The allegory of those who accept other masters beside GOD is that of the spider and her home; the flimsiest of all homes is the home of the spider.” [29:41] The footnote notes that the verse says her, and that the black widow kills her mate.

[29:41]

The camel

“Why do they not reflect on the camels and how they are created?” [88:17] It sits in a passage that then names the sky, the mountains and the earth. The camel comes first.

[88:17]

The birds

“Have they not seen the birds above them lined up in columns and spreading their wings? The Most Gracious is the One who holds them in the air.” [67:19] Not the wings. He holds them.

[67:19]

The Variety Nothing Needed

One more thing about the world outside is worth sitting with, because nothing required it. God keeps drawing attention to difference for its own sake.

“Do you not realize that GOD sends down from the sky water, whereby we produce fruits of various colors? Even the mountains have different colors; the peaks are white, or red, or some other color. And the ravens are black.” [35:27]

Colour is doing no work there. A fruit does not need a colour to feed anyone. A mountain does not need one at all.

The next verse widens it to us, and then says something unexpected about who responds: “Also, the people, the animals, and the livestock come in various colors. This is why the people who truly reverence GOD are those who are knowledgeable.” [35:28]

Nothing about the arrangement is careless, and God says so of the whole: “Have they not looked at the sky above them, and how we constructed it and adorned it, without a flaw?” [50:6] Constructed, and then adorned. Two verbs, and only the first was necessary.

Questions About the Living World

Why does the Quran keep pointing at rain, seeds and the sky?

Because they are the signs everybody has seen, and because they carry two meanings at once. The first is provision. God sends the winds, piles the clouds, sends the water, and out of it comes food that is “similar, yet dissimilar” [6:99], [30:48]. The second is resurrection. The same rain is used to answer doubt about the Hereafter: “And we revive with it dead lands; you are similarly resurrected.” [50:11] Dead ground coming back is the nearest thing to a demonstration we get.

Why does the Quran talk about bees, ants and spiders?

Because small creatures carry the argument better than large ones. Nothing about them can be explained by their own cleverness. The bee is told where to build and what to eat, and what comes out of it heals people [16:68-69]. An ant warns its colony in words the Quran records [27:18]. The spider's house is used as a picture of a weak refuge [29:41]. God also puts them all on the same footing as us: “All the creatures on earth, and all the birds that fly with wings, are communities like you.” [6:38]

Does the Quran speak of life other than ours?

Yes, in two ways. It speaks of creatures spread through the heavens and the earth. It also speaks of the jinn as a separate creation. God says: “Among His proofs is the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the creatures He spreads in them. He is able to summon them, when He wills.” [42:29] The creatures are in both, and He can summon them. He also says of the seven universes that “we are never unaware of a single creature in them” [23:17]. Beyond that, nothing is described, so nothing should be claimed.

Are jinn real?

They are real, and God tells us plainly what they are. They are made of fire: “And created the jinns from blazing fire.” [55:15] They were made for the same reason we were: “I did not create the jinns and the humans except to worship Me alone.” [51:56] So they choose, as we do. Some choose well and some do not. A group of them once heard the Quran and believed. God quotes them: “It guides to righteousness, and we have believed in it; we will never set up any idols besides our Lord.” [72:2] Satan belongs to this group by his own act. When he refused to prostrate before Adam, he “became a jinn, for he disobeyed the order of His Lord.” [18:50] So they are creatures under God, being tested, exactly as we are. Not one of them is a power beside Him.

Can jinn harm us, and should we be afraid of them?

They can bring trouble to people who go looking for them, and God gives us the one protection that works. Here is how it went for people who tried to use them: “Human beings used to seek power through jinn beings, but they only afflicted them with a lot of adversity.” [72:6] The power never arrived. The trouble did. They also do not know what we cannot know. When Solomon died, the jinn working for him carried on, with no idea he was gone. They understood then “that if they really knew the unseen, they would have stopped working so hard as soon as he died.” [34:14] What they can do is whisper, and God answers that with a command: “When the devil whispers an idea to you, you shall seek refuge in GOD. He is the Hearer, the Omniscient.” [41:36] The last sura of the Quran closes on the same subject, naming who the whisperers are: “Be they of the jinns, or the people.” [114:6] So the protection is God, and it is there for anyone who asks.

Are angels real, and what do they do?

They are real, and God tells us what they do. He appoints them to carry His messages. God is the “appointer of the angels to be messengers with wings—two, three, and four (wings).” [35:1] Two of them keep the record of a life: “Two recording (angels), at right and at left, are constantly recording.” [50:17] That is a sobering thought, and it is meant to be. God also corrects a claim people made about them. Some called the angels female, and He answers it seriously: “They claimed that the angels, who are servants of the Most Gracious, are females! Have they witnessed their creation? Their claims are recorded, and they will be asked.” [43:19] The most important thing about them is what they do not have. “Not even the angels in heaven possess authority to intercede.” [53:26] They are servants, like us, and they are never to be prayed to.

The World Inside Us

Half of 41:53 was about the horizons. The other half was about us, and the Quran spends more words there than most readers expect.

We have taken something like twenty thousand breaths since yesterday morning, and chose none of them. The heart beat about a hundred thousand times in the same stretch without asking.

God opens the subject with an instruction, not a description: “Let the human reflect on his creation.” [86:5] Not creation in general. Our own.

Made in Stages

What follows is a sequence, and God is the actor at every step.

“We created the human being from a certain kind of mud. Subsequently, we reproduced him from a tiny drop, that is placed into a well protected repository. Then we developed the drop into a hanging (embryo), then developed the hanging (embryo) into a bite-size (fetus), then created the bite-size (fetus) into bones, then covered the bones with flesh.” [23:12-14]

Read the verbs. Created, reproduced, developed, developed, created, covered. Nothing in the passage happens by itself.

God says the same in shorter form: “He is the One who created you in stages.” [71:14]

It is worth seeing what the passage is for. Nearly every time these stages appear, God is arguing about resurrection or about reverence, not about biology: “O people, if you have any doubt about resurrection, (remember that) we created you from dust, and subsequently from a tiny drop…” [22:5]

Down to the Fingertip

One detail in that argument deserves its own paragraph. God raises the objection people actually have, then answers it with a part nobody would have thought to name.

“Does the human being think that we will not reconstruct his bones? Yes indeed; we are able to reconstruct his finger tip.” [75:3-4]

Not the bones. The fingertip. The claim goes past the large structures: He can restore the smallest detail there is.

What is now known about fingerprints makes that a striking choice, and it is fair to say so. The verse is arguing something else, though. It is about the Day of Resurrection, and the fingertip is the least of us.

The Equipment for Noticing

The last thing God says about the inside of a person is about the faculties themselves. The purpose comes with them.

“He shaped him and blew into him from His spirit. And He gave you the hearing, the eyesight, and the brains; rarely are you thankful.” [32:9]

So the ability to read a sign is itself a sign, and it was issued for a reason. Hearing, sight and understanding were given so that we would notice Him and say thank you.

One correction before leaving this part, because the page could leave the wrong impression. Being full of signs does not make us the centre of anything: “The creation of the heavens and the earth is even more awesome than the creation of the human being, but most people do not know.” [40:57]

Questions About Ourselves

What does the Quran say about how a human being is formed?

It gives a sequence of stages, with God acting at each one. The fullest passage runs from mud to “a tiny drop, that is placed into a well protected repository” [23:13]. Then a hanging embryo, a bite-size fetus, bones, and flesh over the bones [23:14]. God sums it up elsewhere in five words: “He is the One who created you in stages.” [71:14] The passages are not there to teach biology. Look where they sit: “O people, if you have any doubt about resurrection, (remember that) we created you from dust.” [22:5] The stages are an argument about what God can do next.

Why does the Quran single out the fingertip?

Because it answers a question about scale with the smallest thing on a body. Someone doubts that scattered bones could be reassembled. God answers: “Yes indeed; we are able to reconstruct his finger tip.” [75:4] Not the skeleton. The tip of a finger. That this happens to be the part carrying the finest detail a body has is remarkable. The verse is arguing something else, though. It is about the Day of Resurrection, and nothing is too small for Him.

Does all this mean human beings are the centre of creation?

No, and God corrects that directly: “The creation of the heavens and the earth is even more awesome than the creation of the human being, but most people do not know.” [40:57] He also says the whole of it worships Him without us: “Glorifying Him are the seven universes, the earth, and everyone in them. There is nothing that does not glorify Him.” [17:44] What we are given is a short test, and the equipment to notice who set it: “rarely are you thankful.” [32:9]

Stated First, Found Later

The Quran states things plainly, and people found their way to them a long time afterwards. Seven of them are set out below, with the sources named so the trail can be followed.

One thing is worth saying at the top. The verse is not being checked against the finding. The finding arrived later, at what the verse had already said.

And none of these verses needed the confirmation. Every one of them is doing something else: arguing about resurrection, about reverence, or about who made all this.

Seven Places

Fact 01The Expanding Universe

We constructed the sky with our hands, and we will continue to expand it.[51:47]

For most of scientific history the universe was taken to be a fixed size. That picture ended in 1929. Edwin Hubble combined distance measurements with radial velocities Vesto Slipher had been collecting since 1912. He published the relation now called the Hubble–Lemaître law: the further away a galaxy is, the faster it is receding. The universe is getting larger. That the universe expands is now among the most firmly established facts in astronomy, confirmed from several independent directions. And in 1998 two teams found that the expansion is speeding up, not slowing. That work took the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics. The verse says God built the sky and is still at it. The weight sits on the tense: not that He expanded it and stopped, but “we will continue to expand it” [51:47]. Something ongoing, stated as ongoing, fourteen centuries before anyone could measure it.

Fact 02The Sky That Guards

And we rendered the sky a guarded ceiling. Yet, they are totally oblivious to all the portents therein.[21:32]

The Quran calls the sky a ceiling that guards, and it says what the guarding is for. “And we guarded it against every rejected devil. If any of them sneaks around to listen, a mighty projectile will chase him back.” [15:17-18] The same in two other places: God “guarded its borders with projectiles against the devils” [67:5], and “We guarded it from every evil devil.” [37:7] A guarded border, stated four times. The sky guards in a second way as well, and none of it was known when the verse was written. Ozone in the stratosphere absorbs 97 to 99 percent of the sun's ultraviolet in the 200 to 315 nanometre band. Those are the wavelengths that damage DNA. Without it, nothing could live on an exposed surface. The atmosphere burns up the overwhelming majority of the rock that falls toward us. And it holds the surface within a range life survives, averaging about fifteen degrees Celsius instead of swinging between extremes. Three shields, each one necessary, in what looks from the ground like empty air. A ceiling, and a guarded one, on every level anyone has since been able to reach. The verse then says the thing that is still true: people are oblivious to all of it.

Fact 03All Life From Water

Do the unbelievers not realize that the heaven and the earth used to be one solid mass that we exploded into existence? And from water we made all living things. Would they believe?[21:30]

Every organism known needs water to metabolise and reproduce. Cells are mostly water by mass. The chemistry of life runs in solution and stops without it. The shape DNA holds depends on the shell of water molecules around it. There is no exception anywhere in biology. It is also where the search for life beyond this planet begins. The first question put to any other world is whether it has liquid water, or ever had. Nothing else is known to do the job. The Quran states the rule plainly, then illustrates it: “And GOD created every living creature from water. Some of them walk on their bellies, some walk on two legs, and some walk on four. GOD creates whatever He wills. GOD is Omnipotent.” [24:45] Every living creature, from one substance, sorted by how they move — the way someone writes having watched.

Fact 04The Stages in the Womb

We created the human being from a certain kind of mud. Subsequently, we reproduced him from a tiny drop, that is placed into a well protected repository. Then we developed the drop into a hanging (embryo), then developed the hanging (embryo) into a bite-size (fetus), then created the bite-size (fetus) into bones, then covered the bones with flesh. We thus produce a new creature. Most blessed is GOD, the best Creator.[23:12-14]

The verse gives the sequence. Here is what a microscope found, centuries later. A drop, placed somewhere protected. The fertilised egg travels to the uterus and implants. It is completely embedded in the wall by about the eleventh day. Then a hanging thing, attached to that wall and soon suspended from the stalk that becomes the umbilical cord. Something bite-size. At around four weeks a row of blocks runs along the embryo's back, giving it a notched outline. Then bones, then flesh over the bones. Cartilage models of the limbs and spine are laid down. They begin hardening from the sixth to eighth week, with muscle forming around that frame. Five terms, in that order. They were set down when the early weeks could not be observed at all. And the Quran says what it is telling us this for. Wherever these stages appear, they are answering doubt about resurrection: if He assembled you once from that, He can do it again [22:5].

Fact 05Down to the Fingertip

Does the human being think that we will not reconstruct his bones? Yes indeed; we are able to reconstruct his finger tip.[75:3-4]

Someone doubts that a body long decayed could be put back together. The answer does not argue about bones. It goes smaller: the fingertip. Friction ridges there begin forming in the womb from around the tenth week, settle into their pattern by about the sixth month, and hold it for life. No two prints from different people have ever been shown to be indistinguishable at the level of ridge detail — not even among identical twins, whose prints differ although their DNA does not. Francis Galton published the first major study of them in 1892, and the same year fingerprints were first used to identify a criminal. Of all the parts God could have named to answer a question about scale, the verse names the one that turns out to carry the finest detail a human body has.

Fact 06The Sun Is Going Somewhere

The sun sets into a specific location, according to the design of the Almighty, the Omniscient.[36:38]

The sun has a destination. It carries the whole solar system around the centre of the Milky Way at something between 800,000 and 900,000 kilometres per hour, taking over two hundred million years to complete one circuit, and relative to the stars nearest us it is travelling toward a particular point in the constellation Hercules — the solar apex, first inferred by William Herschel in 1783. Nothing in the universe is standing still, and the verse two lines later says so of the whole arrangement: “The sun is never to catch up with the moon—the night and the day never deviate—each of them is floating in its own orbit.” [36:40] Each in its own orbit, the sun bound for a specific location, and a design named behind all of it. That is a verse about motion with a purpose, written when the sun's daily and yearly circuit was all anyone could describe.

Fact 07Skin, and the Renewing of It

Surely, those who disbelieve in our revelations, we will condemn them to the hellfire. Whenever their skins are burnt, we will give them new skins. Thus, they will suffer continuously. GOD is Almighty, Most Wise.[4:56]

The nerve endings that register pain from the body surface sit in the skin. A burn that destroys the full thickness of the skin destroys them with it, which is why the deepest burns can be insensate at their centre while the shallower burn around them is agony. For the surface pain to continue, the skin itself has to be there to feel it. That is the mechanism the verse turns on. The skins are burnt; new skins are given; and the reason stated for giving them is that the suffering continues. Remove the clause about the skin and the sentence stops working. Sherrington established in 1906 that pain has its own dedicated receptors, and how they fire was worked out a century after that. The verse had already made the renewing of the skin the condition of the suffering.

What About Evolution?

A page about creation cannot skip this, so here is the site's position plainly.

Change within a kind is not in dispute, and it is no problem for anything the Quran says. What we reject is the claim that the whole of it is unguided. That nobody designed the process, and that a human being is the end of a chain of accidents.

The argument usually put alongside this one is about odds. The chance of the necessary molecules assembling by themselves is so small that chance is not a serious answer. Take that for what it is worth. It is not what the Quran argues.

What the Quran argues is simpler, and it does not rest on anyone's arithmetic. It asks who made it, and it asks us: “Is One who creates like one who does not create? Would you now take heed?” [16:17]

Questions About Science and Scripture

Does the Quran say anything about how the universe began?

Yes, in one sentence: “Do the unbelievers not realize that the heaven and the earth used to be one solid mass that we exploded into existence?” [21:30] The same verse adds where life came from: “And from water we made all living things.” [21:30] Two claims, side by side, in one line. And the sky is described as work still going on: “We constructed the sky with our hands, and we will continue to expand it.” [51:47] The Quran states these things. It does not argue them, because it is arguing about something else.

Does the Quran accept evolution?

It does not address the mechanism, and it rules out one version of the conclusion. Change within a kind is not a problem. What the Quran will not allow is a process with nobody behind it. God names Himself as the actor at every stage of our making: created, reproduced, developed, covered [23:12-14]. His question to us is about something else entirely: “Is One who creates like one who does not create? Would you now take heed?” [16:17] That question stands whatever the mechanism turns out to be.

If the Quran said it first, why are most scientists not convinced?

Because a verse is a sign, and a sign does not force anybody. It works on a person willing to follow it. God says as much. The signs are “for those who possess intelligence” [3:190], for people who think, for people who can hear [30:21-23]. The condition is in the verse. He also says most people will not be convinced whatever happens: “Most people, no matter what you do, will not believe.” [12:103] None of that is a complaint about scientists. It is a description of people.

What the Signs Are For

One thing remains, and without it the rest of this page is a collection of interesting observations.

The signs are for remembering God, and the remembering is commanded: “Once you complete your Contact Prayer (Salat), you shall remember GOD while standing, sitting, or lying down.” [4:103] Standing, sitting and lying down is every posture a body is in all day.

The footnote to that verse puts it in one line: our god is whoever or whatever occupies our mind most of the day.

There is one item on the list of proofs that gets skipped more than any other, so it is worth ending on: “Among His proofs are the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the variations in your languages and your colors. In these, there are signs for the knowledgeable.” [30:22] Difference between people is on the list of evidence, not on a list of problems.

None of this is for winning arguments. A sign is a finger pointing, and it has only ever pointed one way. God says what He gave us the equipment for: “He gave you the hearing, the eyesight, and the brains; rarely are you thankful.” [32:9]

What the Quran Says About Creation

The verses this page rests on, in one place.

In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and the alternation of night and day, there are signs for those who possess intelligence.
[3:190]

The verse this page is built on.

We will show them our proofs in the horizons, and within themselves, until they realize that this is the truth. Is your Lord not sufficient, as a witness of all things?
[41:53]

The horizons, and within ourselves.

Do the unbelievers not realize that the heaven and the earth used to be one solid mass that we exploded into existence? And from water we made all living things. Would they believe?
[21:30]

One mass, and everything alive from water.

All the creatures on earth, and all the birds that fly with wings, are communities like you. We did not leave anything out of this book. To their Lord, all these creatures will be summoned.
[6:38]

Communities like us, summoned like us.

Among His proofs is your sleeping during the night or the day, and your working in pursuit of His provisions. In this, there are sufficient proofs for people who can hear.
[30:23]

Sleep and a day's work, named as proofs.

Then we developed the drop into a hanging (embryo), then developed the hanging (embryo) into a bite-size (fetus), then created the bite-size (fetus) into bones, then covered the bones with flesh. We thus produce a new creature. Most blessed is GOD, the best Creator.
[23:14]

Five verbs in one verse, and all of them His.

The creation of the heavens and the earth is even more awesome than the creation of the human being, but most people do not know.
[40:57]

The correction: we are not the most awesome thing He made.

If you count GOD's blessings, you cannot possibly encompass them. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful.
[16:18]

Why the list can never be finished.

Growth Prompt: The Observation Challenge

Pick one thing in creation and look at it for ten minutes a day for a week. A tree outside the window, the moon through its phases, an insect in the garden, our own hand. Write three lines each evening: what we noticed today that we missed yesterday, what it says about God, and what it is doing that we should copy.

What did I look at properly this week, and what did it tell me about the One who made it?
