The Shocker

In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

bis'mi l-lahi l-raḥmāni l-raḥīm

The Shocker.

ٱلْقَارِعَةُ

al-qāriʿat

What a shocker!

مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ

mā l-qāriʿat

Do you have any idea what the Shocker is?

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلْقَارِعَةُ

wamā adrāka mā l-qāriʿat

That is the day when the people come out like swarms of butterflies.

يَوْمَ يَكُونُ ٱلنَّاسُ كَٱلْفَرَاشِ ٱلْمَبْثُوثِ

yawma yakūnu l-nāsu kal-farāshi l-mabthūth

The mountains will be like fluffy wool.

وَتَكُونُ ٱلْجِبَالُ كَٱلْعِهْنِ ٱلْمَنفُوشِ

watakūnu l-jibālu kal-ʿih'ni l-manfūsh

As for him whose weights are heavy.

فَأَمَّا مَن ثَقُلَتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ

fa-ammā man thaqulat mawāzīnuh

He will lead a happy (eternal) life.

فَهُوَ فِى عِيشَةٍ رَّاضِيَةٍ

fahuwa fī ʿīshatin rāḍiyati

As for him whose weights are light.

وَأَمَّا مَنْ خَفَّتْ مَوَٰزِينُهُۥ

wa-ammā man khaffat mawāzīnuh

His destiny is lowly.

فَأُمُّهُۥ هَاوِيَةٌ

fa-ummuhu hāwiyatu

Do you know what it is?

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا هِيَهْ

wamā adrāka mā hiya

The blazing Hellfire.

نَارٌ حَامِيَةٌۢ

nārun ḥāmiyatu
