The Cheaters

In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

bis'mi l-lahi l-raḥmāni l-raḥīm

Woe to the cheaters.

وَيْلٌ لِّلْمُطَفِّفِينَ

waylun lil'muṭaffifīn

Who demand full measure when receiving from the people.

ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَا ٱكْتَالُوا۟ عَلَى ٱلنَّاسِ يَسْتَوْفُونَ

alladhīna idhā ik'tālū ʿalā l-nāsi yastawfūn

But when giving them the measures or weights, they cheat.

وَإِذَا كَالُوهُمْ أَو وَّزَنُوهُمْ يُخْسِرُونَ

wa-idhā kālūhum aw wazanūhum yukh'sirūn

Do they not know that they will be resurrected?

أَلَا يَظُنُّ أُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ أَنَّهُم مَّبْعُوثُونَ

alā yaẓunnu ulāika annahum mabʿūthūn

On a tremendous day?

لِيَوْمٍ عَظِيمٍ

liyawmin ʿaẓīmi

That is the day when all people will stand before the Lord of the universe.

يَوْمَ يَقُومُ ٱلنَّاسُ لِرَبِّ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ

yawma yaqūmu l-nāsu lirabbi l-ʿālamīn

Indeed, the book of the wicked is in Sijjeen.

كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ ٱلْفُجَّارِ لَفِى سِجِّينٍ

kallā inna kitāba l-fujāri lafī sijjīni

Do you know what Sijjeen is?

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا سِجِّينٌ

wamā adrāka mā sijjīnu

A numerically structured book.

كِتَٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ

kitābun marqūmu

Woe on that day to the rejectors.

وَيْلٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ لِّلْمُكَذِّبِينَ

waylun yawma-idhin lil'mukadhibīn

They do not believe in the Day of Judgment.

ٱلَّذِينَ يُكَذِّبُونَ بِيَوْمِ ٱلدِّينِ

alladhīna yukadhibūna biyawmi l-dīn

None disbelieves therein except the transgressor, the sinful.

وَمَا يُكَذِّبُ بِهِۦٓ إِلَّا كُلُّ مُعْتَدٍ أَثِيمٍ

wamā yukadhibu bihi illā kullu muʿ'tadin athīmi

When our revelations are recited to him, he says, "Tales from the past!"

إِذَا تُتْلَىٰ عَلَيْهِ ءَايَٰتُنَا قَالَ أَسَٰطِيرُ ٱلْأَوَّلِينَ

idhā tut'lā ʿalayhi āyātunā qāla asāṭīru l-awalīn

Indeed, their hearts have become shielded by their sins.

كَلَّا بَلْ رَانَ عَلَىٰ قُلُوبِهِم مَّا كَانُوا۟ يَكْسِبُونَ

kallā bal rāna ʿalā qulūbihim mā kānū yaksibūn

Indeed, they will be isolated, on that day, from their Lord.

كَلَّآ إِنَّهُمْ عَن رَّبِّهِمْ يَوْمَئِذٍ لَّمَحْجُوبُونَ

kallā innahum ʿan rabbihim yawma-idhin lamaḥjūbūn

Then they will be thrown into Hell.

ثُمَّ إِنَّهُمْ لَصَالُوا۟ ٱلْجَحِيمِ

thumma innahum laṣālū l-jaḥīm

They will be told, "This is what you used to deny."

ثُمَّ يُقَالُ هَٰذَا ٱلَّذِى كُنتُم بِهِۦ تُكَذِّبُونَ

thumma yuqālu hādhā alladhī kuntum bihi tukadhibūn

Indeed, the book of the righteous will be in 'Elleyyeen.

كَلَّآ إِنَّ كِتَٰبَ ٱلْأَبْرَارِ لَفِى عِلِّيِّينَ

kallā inna kitāba l-abrāri lafī ʿilliyyīn

Do you know what 'Elleyyeen is?

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا عِلِّيُّونَ

wamā adrāka mā ʿilliyyūn

A numerically structured book.

كِتَٰبٌ مَّرْقُومٌ

kitābun marqūmu

To be witnessed by those close to Me.

يَشْهَدُهُ ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ

yashhaduhu l-muqarabūn

The righteous have deserved bliss.

إِنَّ ٱلْأَبْرَارَ لَفِى نَعِيمٍ

inna l-abrāra lafī naʿīmi

On luxurious furnishings they watch.

عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ

ala al-ara-iki yanthuroona

You recognize in their faces the joy of bliss.

تَعْرِفُ فِى وُجُوهِهِمْ نَضْرَةَ ٱلنَّعِيمِ

taʿrifu fī wujūhihim naḍrata l-naʿīm

Their drinks will be spiced with nectar.

يُسْقَوْنَ مِن رَّحِيقٍ مَّخْتُومٍ

yus'qawna min raḥīqin makhtūmi

Its spice is like musk. This is what the competitors should compete for.

خِتَٰمُهُۥ مِسْكٌ وَفِى ذَٰلِكَ فَلْيَتَنَافَسِ ٱلْمُتَنَٰفِسُونَ

khitāmuhu mis'kun wafī dhālika falyatanāfasi l-mutanāfisūn

Mixed into it will be special flavors.

وَمِزَاجُهُۥ مِن تَسْنِيمٍ

wamizājuhu min tasnīmi

From a spring that is reserved for those close to Me.

عَيْنًا يَشْرَبُ بِهَا ٱلْمُقَرَّبُونَ

aynan yashrabu biha almuqarraboona

The wicked used to laugh at those who believed.

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ أَجْرَمُوا۟ كَانُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ يَضْحَكُونَ

inna alladhīna ajramū kānū mina alladhīna āmanū yaḍḥakūn

When they passed by them, they used to poke fun.

وَإِذَا مَرُّوا۟ بِهِمْ يَتَغَامَزُونَ

wa-idhā marrū bihim yataghāmazūn

When they got together with their people, they used to joke.

وَإِذَا ٱنقَلَبُوٓا۟ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِمُ ٱنقَلَبُوا۟ فَكِهِينَ

wa-idhā inqalabū ilā ahlihimu inqalabū fakihīn

Whenever they saw them, they said, "These people are far astray!

وَإِذَا رَأَوْهُمْ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّ هَٰٓؤُلَآءِ لَضَآلُّونَ

wa-idhā ra-awhum qālū inna hāulāi laḍāllūn

"They have no such thing as (invisible) guards."

وَمَآ أُرْسِلُوا۟ عَلَيْهِمْ حَٰفِظِينَ

wamā ur'silū ʿalayhim ḥāfiẓīn

Today, those who believed are laughing at the disbelievers.

فَٱلْيَوْمَ ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ مِنَ ٱلْكُفَّارِ يَضْحَكُونَ

fal-yawma alladhīna āmanū mina l-kufāri yaḍḥakūn

On luxurious furnishings they watch.

عَلَى ٱلْأَرَآئِكِ يَنظُرُونَ

ala al-ara-iki yanthuroona

Most assuredly, the disbelievers are requited for what they did.

هَلْ ثُوِّبَ ٱلْكُفَّارُ مَا كَانُوا۟ يَفْعَلُونَ

hal thuwwiba l-kufāru mā kānū yafʿalūn
