The Rupture

In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

bis'mi l-lahi l-raḥmāni l-raḥīm

The time will come when the sky is ruptured.

إِذَا ٱلسَّمَآءُ ٱنشَقَّتْ

idhā l-samāu inshaqqa

It will submit to its Lord and expire.

وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ

wa-adhinat lirabbihā waḥuqqa

The earth will be leveled.

وَإِذَا ٱلْأَرْضُ مُدَّتْ

wa-idhā l-arḍu mudda

It will eject its contents, as it erupts.

وَأَلْقَتْ مَا فِيهَا وَتَخَلَّتْ

wa-alqat mā fīhā watakhalla

It will submit to its Lord and expire.

وَأَذِنَتْ لِرَبِّهَا وَحُقَّتْ

wa-adhinat lirabbihā waḥuqqa

O humans, you are irreversibly heading for a meeting with your Lord.

يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلْإِنسَٰنُ إِنَّكَ كَادِحٌ إِلَىٰ رَبِّكَ كَدْحًا فَمُلَٰقِيهِ

yāayyuhā l-insānu innaka kādiḥun ilā rabbika kadḥan famulāqīh

As for the one who receives his record in his right hand,

فَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ بِيَمِينِهِۦ

fa-ammā man ūtiya kitābahu biyamīnih

His reckoning will be easy.

فَسَوْفَ يُحَاسَبُ حِسَابًا يَسِيرًا

fasawfa yuḥāsabu ḥisāban yasīra

He will return to his people joyfully.

وَيَنقَلِبُ إِلَىٰٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا

wayanqalibu ilā ahlihi masrūra

As for the one who receives his record behind his back,

وَأَمَّا مَنْ أُوتِىَ كِتَٰبَهُۥ وَرَآءَ ظَهْرِهِۦ

wa-ammā man ūtiya kitābahu warāa ẓahrih

He will be ridden with remorse.

فَسَوْفَ يَدْعُوا۟ ثُبُورًا

fasawfa yadʿū thubūra

And will burn in Hell.

وَيَصْلَىٰ سَعِيرًا

wayaṣlā saʿīra

He used to act arrogantly among his people.

إِنَّهُۥ كَانَ فِىٓ أَهْلِهِۦ مَسْرُورًا

innahu kāna fī ahlihi masrūra

He thought that he will never be called to account.

إِنَّهُۥ ظَنَّ أَن لَّن يَحُورَ

innahu ẓanna an lan yaḥūr

Yes indeed, his Lord was Seer of him.

بَلَىٰٓ إِنَّ رَبَّهُۥ كَانَ بِهِۦ بَصِيرًا

balā inna rabbahu kāna bihi baṣīra

I solemnly swear by the rosy dusk.

فَلَآ أُقْسِمُ بِٱلشَّفَقِ

falā uq'simu bil-shafaq

And the night as it spreads.

وَٱلَّيْلِ وَمَا وَسَقَ

wa-al-layli wamā wasaq

And the moon and its phases.

وَٱلْقَمَرِ إِذَا ٱتَّسَقَ

wal-qamari idhā ittasaq

You will move from stage to stage.

لَتَرْكَبُنَّ طَبَقًا عَن طَبَقٍ

latarkabunna ṭabaqan ʿan ṭabaqi

Why do they not believe?

فَمَا لَهُمْ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ

famā lahum lā yu'minūn

And when the Quran is recited to them, they do not fall prostrate.

وَإِذَا قُرِئَ عَلَيْهِمُ ٱلْقُرْءَانُ لَا يَسْجُدُونَ

wa-idhā quri-a ʿalayhimu l-qur'ānu lā yasjudūn

This is because those who disbelieved are rejecting (the Quran).

بَلِ ٱلَّذِينَ كَفَرُوا۟ يُكَذِّبُونَ

bali alladhīna kafarū yukadhibūn

GOD is fully aware of their innermost thoughts.

وَٱللَّهُ أَعْلَمُ بِمَا يُوعُونَ

wal-lahu aʿlamu bimā yūʿūn

Promise them painful retribution.

فَبَشِّرْهُم بِعَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍ

fabashir'hum biʿadhābin alīmi

As for those who believed and led a righteous life, they receive a recompense that is well deserved.

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ وَعَمِلُوا۟ ٱلصَّٰلِحَٰتِ لَهُمْ أَجْرٌ غَيْرُ مَمْنُونٍۭ

illā alladhīna āmanū waʿamilū l-ṣāliḥāti lahum ajrun ghayru mamnūni
