Overwhelming

In the name of GOD, Most Gracious, Most Merciful.

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

bis'mi l-lahi l-raḥmāni l-raḥīm

Are you aware of the Overwhelming?

هَلْ أَتَىٰكَ حَدِيثُ ٱلْغَٰشِيَةِ

hal atāka ḥadīthu l-ghāshiyat

Faces on that day will be shamed.

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ خَٰشِعَةٌ

wujūhun yawma-idhin khāshiʿatu

Laboring and exhausted.

عَامِلَةٌ نَّاصِبَةٌ

aamilatun nasibatun

Suffering in a blazing Hellfire.

تَصْلَىٰ نَارًا حَامِيَةً

taṣlā nāran ḥāmiyata

Drinking from a flaming spring.

تُسْقَىٰ مِنْ عَيْنٍ ءَانِيَةٍ

tus'qā min ʿaynin āniyati

They will have no food except the useless variety.

لَّيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَامٌ إِلَّا مِن ضَرِيعٍ

laysa lahum ṭaʿāmun illā min ḍarīʿi

It never nourishes, nor satisfies hunger.

لَّا يُسْمِنُ وَلَا يُغْنِى مِن جُوعٍ

lā yus'minu walā yugh'nī min jūʿi

Other faces on that day will be full of joy.

وُجُوهٌ يَوْمَئِذٍ نَّاعِمَةٌ

wujūhun yawma-idhin nāʿimatu

Satisfied with their work.

لِّسَعْيِهَا رَاضِيَةٌ

lisaʿyihā rāḍiyatu

In an exalted Paradise.

فِى جَنَّةٍ عَالِيَةٍ

fī jannatin ʿāliyati

In it, no nonsense is heard.

لَّا تَسْمَعُ فِيهَا لَٰغِيَةً

lā tasmaʿu fīhā lāghiyata

In it, a spring flows.

فِيهَا عَيْنٌ جَارِيَةٌ

fīhā ʿaynun jāriyatu

In it, there are luxurious furnishings.

فِيهَا سُرُرٌ مَّرْفُوعَةٌ

fīhā sururun marfūʿatu

And drinks made available.

وَأَكْوَابٌ مَّوْضُوعَةٌ

wa-akwābun mawḍūʿatu

And pitchers in rows.

وَنَمَارِقُ مَصْفُوفَةٌ

wanamāriqu maṣfūfatu

And carpets throughout.

وَزَرَابِىُّ مَبْثُوثَةٌ

wazarābiyyu mabthūthatu

Why do they not reflect on the camels and how they are created?

أَفَلَا يَنظُرُونَ إِلَى ٱلْإِبِلِ كَيْفَ خُلِقَتْ

afalā yanẓurūna ilā l-ibili kayfa khuliqa

And the sky and how it is raised.

وَإِلَى ٱلسَّمَآءِ كَيْفَ رُفِعَتْ

wa-ilā l-samāi kayfa rufiʿa

And the mountains and how they are constructed.

وَإِلَى ٱلْجِبَالِ كَيْفَ نُصِبَتْ

wa-ilā l-jibāli kayfa nuṣiba

And the earth and how it is built.

وَإِلَى ٱلْأَرْضِ كَيْفَ سُطِحَتْ

wa-ilā l-arḍi kayfa suṭiḥa

You shall remind, for your mission is to deliver this reminder.

فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَآ أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ

fadhakkir innamā anta mudhakkiru

You have no power over them.

لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ

lasta ʿalayhim bimuṣayṭiri

As for those who turn away and disbelieve.

إِلَّا مَن تَوَلَّىٰ وَكَفَرَ

illā man tawallā wakafar

GOD will commit them to the great retribution.

فَيُعَذِّبُهُ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْعَذَابَ ٱلْأَكْبَرَ

fayuʿadhibuhu l-lahu l-ʿadhāba l-akbar

To us is their ultimate destiny.

إِنَّ إِلَيْنَآ إِيَابَهُمْ

inna ilaynā iyābahu

Then we will call them to account.

ثُمَّ إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا حِسَابَهُم

thumma inna ʿalaynā ḥisābahu
